Have you ever signed up to a new diet plan and been told to cut out all the sauces, only to be left with bland chicken breast with plain vegetables? I’ll be honest, sometimes we do just need a meal with that ever so delicious aioli or chicken caesar sauce, but the truth is, if you are on a weight loss journey, fancy sauces like this over time could just be the deal breaker between losing weight and not.

Does that mean you have to have plain and boring protein and veg forever? Heck no! Cue the wonderful world of herbs and spices! When it comes to spicing up our meals (see what I did there ;)) herbs and spices are grossly underrated! They can add so much flavour with little to no calories. An absolute winner in our books!

We’ve picked out some of our favourite herbs and spices pairings so you can easily get cooking and experimenting with them yourselves! The below list is by no means exhaustive, feel free to experiment and even try some new ones and if you have any favourites of your own we would love to hear them!

Baked Vegetables

  • Italian Herbs and Spices Mix
    A staple pantry mix!
  • Sweet Paprika + Cumin
    A smokey bittersweet flavour
  • Rosemary

Salads

  • Fresh Mint, Parsley or Dill –These are great to add individually to any salad for and extra burst of fresh flavour

Red Meat

  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Ground Basil

Fish

  • Dukkah – great on Salmon
  • Fresh Parsley or Dill – Again, for a great fresh flavour

Chicken

  • Smoked Paprika + Cumin
  • Oregano
  • Za’atar or Moroccan Spices
  • Cayenne Pepper or Red Chilli flakes- Great if you like a bit of spice!
